Hear the Difference

Take the same notes and scales you’ve always played, and turn them into a solo that says something. Hear three guitarists before and after just two weeks with Solo School.

I gave a small group of students early access to Solo School and asked each of them to improvise a solo over a backing track. Then, after two weeks inside the course, they improvised over the same track again.

That’s the difference you just heard.

Here’s what these students and others who got to test the course said:

  • “Even after one module, I can hear a difference in my playing. My solos are starting to sound more intentional and musical, rather than just a collection of notes from a scale.”

    Rav S.

  • “The course doesn’t feel like studying. The progress almost happens in the background. At some point, you just notice that you’re thinking differently about your playing and trying different things out. And I think that’s the best thing that can happen.”

    Niclas T.

  • “The biggest issue for me was I knew all the scales. I knew the five positions. I could play them up and down the fretboard, but I couldn’t make music with them. I couldn’t really create anything that sounded musical. And I think the biggest improvement I’ve seen is just being more musical with the way I play, combining notes, understanding why certain things sound good together, and having more of an improvisational vocabulary.”

    Reuben T.

  • “I really struggled with how to structure a solo. I would just run through scales and noodle around and hope that something good came out. Now I’m thinking about where I’m going to go, what I’m going to do, and how I’m going to get there. There’s a common thread through the solo, and it’s much more structured.”

    Tobias G.

  • “I think the biggest thing for me is I’ve always struggled with the pentatonic box and playing within those scales. This course has really helped me break out of that box and start integrating things like bends, vibrato, double stops, chord tones and things like that into my improvisation.”

    Marc C.
