Bring Your Acoustic Guitar Playing to Life

I can still remember the moment I fell in love with the acoustic guitar.

For years I just thought of it as the “little brother” of the electric – an instrument to pick up when I didn’t have my amp or pedals, or when I wanted to do a little campfire strumming.

But as soon as I learned how to fingerpick, I realized that I could make the acoustic guitar sound like nothing else – from playing meandering arpeggios, to a bassline, chords and melodies all at the same time!

I learned that the acoustic guitar can be so much more than just a vehicle for strumming the same handful of cowboy chords that we all know.

Understanding this set me on a 15 year journey of uncovering the hidden treasures of the acoustic guitar.

I went deep into different styles and looked at the techniques of great acoustic players – like Tommy Emmanuel, Mark Knopfler, John Fahey, Doc Watson and John Mayer.

And the more I learned, the more my love for the instrument grew.

Fast forward to today, and I find myself wanting to play my acoustic guitars as much as I can – to appreciate the simple joy of taking the guitar off the stand, and feeling the resonance of every note as I play.

But one thing I realized along the way is that many acoustic guitarists never get to experience this same joy.

They get stuck strumming the same handful of chords, playing the same fingerpicking patterns and noodling their favorite riffs and melodies.

They don’t expand their repertoires, sharpen their technical skills or build confidence to try out new ideas in their playing.

So they end up trapped playing the same cowboy chords on repeat and desperately hoping that they’ll never be asked to pull out the guitar for a sing along at the next family gathering.

This isn’t because of a lack of motivation or even technical skills.

In fact, over the years I’ve encountered a ton of intermediate players who had solid technique but still felt limited in what they could play on the acoustic.

The problem?

These guitarists don’t know how to spend their practice time, or even which techniques they should be focusing on to bring their acoustic guitar playing to life.

And with so many different styles and techniques out there, it can feel difficult to even know where to start.

But if you’re an intermediate, transforming your acoustic guitar playing to move beyond simple cowboy chords is easier than you might think – you just need to know which techniques and styles will add that bit of magic to your playing and bring your acoustic to life.

It took me over 15 years of patiently uncovering these “hidden treasures” that the acoustic guitar has to offer.

I explored so many different styles of acoustic playing – from the twangy heart of blues to the timeless tunes of 60s rock and contemporary pop.

And piece by piece I unearthed the key concepts, techniques and styles that push your acoustic guitar playing to the next level, and make it incredibly fun to play and share with friends and family.

I decided to create a course to help other guitar players discover these same techniques and concepts – without having to spend 15 years finding them.

So I’m very excited to introduce to you:

What Students Are Saying

This course is awesome! For so long I’ve dreamt of having the ability to make music, complete with rhythm, melody, and harmony, entirely with my fingers rather than just a few chords, and this course has finally steered me in that direction. While the course is certainly challenging for my current skill set, none of the songs I’ve learned so far seem so out of reach that they become discouraging. Furthermore, Paul Davids is both an excellent and entertaining teacher, adding to the effectiveness of the course. I started playing guitar late in life, but Acoustic Adventure has given me a roadmap for riding into the sunset for the rest of it.

Meet Your Instructor

Hi, my name is Paul.

I first picked up the guitar when I was 12 years old. I was a kid with a red Squier and a dream of playing like Green Day, Metallica, and a local band called ‘de Heideroosjes.’

I quickly fell in love with the guitar and went on to study music with a minor in teaching at Rotterdam Conservatory.

I then split my time between playing live shows and coaching students privately – and over 10 years, worked with hundreds of students and a lot of beginners.

It was around this time that I launched my YouTube channel, and started connecting with thousands of guitarists all over the world.

For many years, I didn’t pay much attention to the acoustic. I thought of myself as an electric guitarist and simply viewed the acoustic as the “little brother” of the electric.

But everything changed when I learned fingerpicking, and I realized that I could become a one person band – playing beautiful meandering arpeggios and combining a bassline, chords and melodies all at the same time!

Over time and as I learned more acoustic styles and techniques, I really grew to love the instrument.

It took me over 15 years to discover these “hidden treasures” of the acoustic.

I wanted to share them – so I decided to create a course to help other guitar players discover the coolest and most fun elements of the acoustic guitar – without having to spend so much time finding them!

It is exactly the kind of course I wish I’d had access to 15 or 20 years ago.

So if you’re ready to bring your acoustic guitar playing to life and get the most out of the instrument – I hope you’ll join me on this adventure.

Cheers,

Paul
