Free Online Metronome

Stay locked in time. Adjustable BPM, time signatures, accents, and tap tempo, all in your browser.

How to use it

Practice in time, three steps.

i

Set your tempo

Drag the slider, type a BPM, or tap the "Tap Tempo" button in time with the music you want to play. The metronome will lock onto your tempo automatically.

ii

Choose your time signature

4/4 covers most pop, rock and blues. 3/4 for waltzes and ballads. 6/8 for slower ballads and triplet feel. The accent on beat 1 helps you keep your place.

iii

Start slow, then build

If you can't play it cleanly at the target tempo, drop the BPM by 20 and play it perfectly at that speed first. Speed always comes from accuracy, never the other way around.

Beyond the metronome

The metronome shows you when you're off. This course shows you why.

If your timing has been a long-running frustration, my course Next Level Playing dedicates a full level to rhythm and groove, the deeper skills that make you stop sounding like you're playing along to a click and start sounding like you've got the click inside you.
