Free Guitar Scale Tool

Find any scale across the whole fretboard. Major, minor, pentatonic, the modes and more, see every position and shape.

How to use it

Map any scale, three steps.

i

Pick the root note

Choose the note your scale is built on, A, B, C, D, E, F or G, plus any sharps or flats. This is the key your scale lives in (the "A" in "A minor pentatonic").

ii

Choose the scale or mode

Major, minor, pentatonic, blues, or one of the seven modes, pick the scale type. The fretboard updates instantly to show every note, with the root notes highlighted.

iii

Explore the positions

See the whole scale laid out across the neck, then break it into the familiar box shapes and positions. Learn where the same notes repeat so you can solo freely anywhere on the fretboard.

Beyond the shapes

You know the scale. Now play freely all over the neck.

Learning the shapes is just the start. My course Next Level Playing is built for intermediate guitarists who feel stuck in the same boxes, and shows you how to connect the positions and improvise across the whole fretboard with confidence.
