Wanted: Guitar Coaches

Start date: TBD, within the next couple of months
Job type: contractor/employee depending on location, part-time and full-time opportunities available
Location: 100% remote, US/European timezones essential
Compensation: Competitive, in alignment with your experience

Paul Davids is one of the world’s most-loved online guitar content creators. His YouTube channel has nearly 4 million subscribers and over half a billion views, and his five courses have helped over 100,000 students get better at the guitar. Paul is now working on something new, and we are looking for a few brilliant new members to join our team.

The Role:

Over the years of teaching guitar online, Paul has found that many students are eager to learn, but struggle to practice and play consistently, and could use some guidance, feedback, and accountability to help them stay motivated.

One of the ways Paul has been able to help with this is by providing a supportive community and amazing guitar coaches for students as they go through his courses.

Now, we are looking to bring on a few more guitar coaches to join the existing team!

As a guitar coach, you will:

  • Lead regular Zoom calls for small groups of enthusiastic guitar students, answering their questions and providing guidance and accountability for practicing
  • Follow up regularly with the students in your group, to see how their practice is going and give them practical encouragement
  • Give prompt individual video feedback in response to student videos submitted every week or two, for every member of your cohort group
  • Keep an eye on attendance and participation, and reach out to any students who seem to be struggling
  • Act as an admin for the online community space for your cohort group — responding to posts, starting discussions, offering feedback, and curating a fun and energetic vibe so everyone in your group will feel welcome to participate and connect with each other

Before the next cohort begins, you’ll work with the existing coaching team to learn everything about Paul’s courses, how to run the weekly calls, how to provide feedback to students, and everything else you’ll need to do a stellar job in supporting course members.

The Zoom call you lead will be set at a specific time, but you’ll be able to set your own flexible schedule for the rest of the role and can work from anywhere as long as you have reliable, stable, high-speed internet (especially for video calls). To fully support students, you’ll need to plan on checking into the community platform five days per week at times of your choosing.

The guitar coach role is a perfect fit for you if…

  • You play and teach guitar professionally and are familiar with Paul’s channel
  • You love encouraging students and inspiring them to reach their goals on the guitar
  • You feel right at home leading a Zoom call and making students feel supported there
  • You have great organizational skills for following up with each student
  • You are 100% reliable. We can count on you to care for Paul’s course members

To apply:

Please write a short note to coaches@pauldavidsguitar.com.

In your email, let us know why you’d be a great fit for the role, and tell us a bit about your experience as a guitar teacher (or player), your familiarity with my online courses and/or channel, and where you are located. Please do not include a resume or CV.

In addition to your written note, please also include a link to a 1-minute video to introduce yourself and share a bit of your playing.

Feel free to play whatever you enjoy playing, or even an exercise you use with your students, and tell me what you like about it. This isn’t an audition for you as a player, but just for us to get a sense of your vibe as a teacher and person and your setup. (Do your best to make the video look and sound good, but don’t worry if it isn’t perfect now; we’ll help you improve any small tech issues before the cohort begins). Simply upload the video to Google Drive, adjust the permissions so my team can access it, and include the link in your email.

For those selected for the next steps, we will send over three sample videos of students for you to provide written and video feedback.

We will aim to get back to everyone within four weeks of applying.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!
