The role:
Paul Davids is one of the world’s most-loved online guitar content creators. His YouTube channel has nearly 4 million subscribers and over half a billion views, and his five courses have helped over 100,000 students get better at the guitar. Paul is now working on something new, and we are looking for a few brilliant new members to join our team.
One key area where Paul needs support is in creating daily reels and shorts for social media. Paul already has an amazing backcatalog of videos on YouTube, as well as his course videos, and he is always creating new content. So there is plenty of material to work with, we just need the right person to “clip” these long-form videos into shorts/reels.
For the right person, this is a dream opportunity to join Paul’s team and create amazing content that will be seen by hundreds of thousands of people.
You’d be a good fit for this if you:
- Are a guitarist and a video editor with a keen eye for selecting the right clips from long-form content to create snappy shorts and reels that will hook any guitarist.
- Follow Paul and/or other guitar content creators and can pluck their top five reels/shorts from their accounts. You know why the best shorts work, and how to recreate that over and over again.
- Follow the social media trends, you know what’s working right now, what’s past its best, and how to jump on a trend at the exact right moment.
- Have a strong instinct for hooks. You can tell within 3 seconds if a reel will get watched to the end or not, and why.
- Understand platform-specific requirements: aspect ratios, safe zones, UI overlays, duration norms.
- Have strong audio sensibility. Clean mixes, tasteful use of music, and respect for tone.
- Have familiarity with AI tools that speed up editing workflows. (This is a bonus, not essential).
There will be lots of videos to create (around 7-10 per week) and more during busy times (3-4 per day), and we will need a fast turnaround. You will be working alongside some of the best launch and paid ads strategists, copywriters, and performance marketers, so you must be comfortable collaborating and taking on feedback. Ultimately this is not a learning role; you should already be confident as a “clipper” and hungry for work in a fast-paced team environment. You’ll need to start editing videos from day one!
You don’t necessarily have to have professional experience as a short-form video editor, perhaps you just love making short-form videos for fun, you have your own social media, or you enjoy using AI tools to make videos. We don’t care if nobody’s paid you to do it before, we care that you make amazing videos, have a keen eye for how to clip a long video into shorts, and have your finger on the social media pulse.
To apply:
Write a short note to clipper@pauldavidsguitar.com detailing your experience and why you think you’re the right person for this role. Please do not worry if you don’t have paid experience working as a short-form video editor, if you’re eager, we still want to hear from you. Please also complete the practical task:
- Make one engaging Instagram reel from this YouTube video.
- The reel should be suitable for Paul to post on his Instagram (we won’t actually be posting the reels from the practical task, but it should be Instagram-ready)
- You can download the video file here.
- You should then upload your finished video to this folder with your full name in the file name.
If you’re really proud of one reel/short you’ve made, feel free to also include a link to it in your email. (It’s not necessary, we prefer to see what you can do with Paul’s video).
Please do not attach a CV. We do not care whether/where you went to school, just that you can make reels that stop guitarists mid-scroll and get them to follow Paul or interact.
There is no deadline to apply but we need this person to start as soon as possible, so the sooner you apply, the better. Once we’ve filled the position, we will remove this advert.
We’ll aim to reply to all applicants within four weeks of their application.
We’re excited to hear from you!
